Pioneer day is one of my favorite holidays, and even more so after living outside Utah for nearly 10 years. I love explaining to friends about my pioneer ancestry and the pioneers' efforts to escape persecution and flee West to find freedom to worship. I love celebrating with friends with breakfast, conversation, and games. And I pay tribute to my mom, who pioneered her way to BYU, where she attended school and then raised a family. I love Utah valley. I also love my dear family. I'm pioneering a way to PhD (phew, that was a tough haul!!) and these darling five children of my own. As I work to care for them and love them, I feel such gratitude for the journey.
